I'd just like to add that I have a very long running and popular board on a dedicated server which is extensively modified, and Cloudflare has been invaluable. Without its protection my board would have been permanently done for ten times over by now. For example, it recently mitigated a colossal attack consisting of millions of hits. I first tried using it 8 years ago which caused nothing but problems so I couldn't, but bad traffic wasn't that big of a concern back then which I rectified by other means. Around 3-4 years ago things began ramping up to unprecedented levels where I had no choice but to try it again and it worked, and has worked amazingly ever since. I mean don't get me wrong, it took a good deal of configuring, and trial and error but was worth it in the end beyond a doubt. I'd be using the paid version if I had the extra money but am making due with the free version for now at least.
I just wanted to share that Cloudflare has the capability of working beautifully with phpBB but understand that there are countless configurations out there so your experience may vary.
