You can set different versions of php for domains or even on per directory basis with Cpanel. Go into Cpanel and find the Multi php manager. If it's not there contact the host.
Once you get that sorted find out why you are getting 500 errors. I'm not sure which phpBB 3.3.X versions is the first compatible with php 8.2 but you can most certainly use the latest version with 8.2.
