Actually the only official STK is the one for phpBB 3.0.14 (https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/official_tool/stk/) (which is in fact functional for 3.0.x (I have to admit I haven't used it on all 3.0.x versions).
The other STKs are unofficial, which isn't saying they shouldn't be used ... but ... they're not phpBB endorsed as such.
Perhaps the above sounds negative. But it's not meant like that.
The STK is a very powerful tool but in the wrong hands can (also) mess up the board completely (it does come with warnings).
Personally I think a native phpBB "Safe Mode" is a good idea as it could help "unseasoned" admins and would be designed and validated by the phpBB Team.
To be clear, I applaud the continuous effort of "externals" to keep the STK updated and I trust it and use it but it should be treated as an external product with no guarantees given.
